About SOL Testing

What is the Standards of Learning Test?
The SOL Test is the Virginia Department of Education’s exam based on the state’s Standards of Learning.

Assessments are usually administered in the spring, and provide a measure of student benchmarks relative to the Virginia Standards of Learning — both to determine where individual students need additional support, and identify which schools are excelling or struggling in teaching standards.

At the elementary school level, students are administered the Math and Reading exam each year, the Science exam in 3rd and 5th grade, and the Virginia Studies test in 4th grade.

How Do You Prepare for the SOL Assessments?

Interactive Practice Questions

Help students get familiar with the specific format and types of questions they’ll find on the exams with practice questions that interactively respond to student input. Progress Learning can help by providing standards aligned practice to help students prepare for testing.
